The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the redesigned edition of the 2016 model Chevrolet Camaro, which was introduced in 2015. This model Camaro is a compact pony, which was underpinned by a new-fangled, more frivolous platform and clothed in a well-known, yet invigorated suit. The revamp also offered the model three new powertrains, including a fuel-competent four-banger and the V8, LT1 engine of the Chevrolet Corvette.
Within the year of the redesign, this model has been refreshed again for the model year 2017 with the name ZL1. The 2017 Camaro comes with a noteworthy improvement over its forerunner. It is expected to follow its predecessor’s suit and to deliver an enhanced performance in a lighter structural design and with a more aggressive body.
2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Changes, Exterior
Like with all high-performance versions, the front fascia of the next generation Camaro ZL1 has become more aggressive through the ZL1 package. The front part of the vehicle comes with massive changes, such that it comes equipped with larger intake beneath the thin grille, flanked by bigger, redesigned cooling channels and vertical LED daylight running lights. There is also a new grille outline for both upper and lower apertures, broader front fenders, a black colored bowtie insignia, and a vented cover with ZL1 logos and carbon-fiber insert.
When observed from the sides, the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 2017 displays novel, black-tinted side skirts expanding towards the ground and a set of novel, frivolous wheels in luster-black. A lowered suspension system takes the ZL1 nearer the ground than any other Camaro models.
Around rear, there is a reworked diffuser and a new, bigger spoiler atop the trunk cover for additional downforce at high velocity. The quad-exhaust system of the Camaro SS remained in position, but outlets have developed bigger on the ZL1.
The new vehicle also comes with better aerodynamics and enhanced cooling. The new-fangled front, lower grille offers greater airflow, whereas the broader front fenders and wing-style back spoiler deliver better stability.
The new coupe will be offered with 20-inch artificial aluminum wheels, wearing 285/30ZR20 sized tires in the front and 305/30ZR20 sized tires at the back. These Goodyear Eagle F1 Super coupe tires are specially designed for the new ZL1 to offer better grip on the track.
The new vehicle also comes equipped with Brembo brakes with the six-piston monobloc calipers in the front, bearing the ZL1 emblem and huge, 15.35-inch two-piece rotors in the front.
The Camaro ZL1 2017 will be 200 pounds (approx 91 kg) lighter than the outgoing model, adding the thrill and sets an innovative benchmark in the supercharged muscle market.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 interior is almost the same to the SS model, featuring an analogous even-bottom steering wheel and shift knob covered in suede. The athletic Recaro front seats with the ZL1 emblems come as standard. Other nice internal features comprise suede inserts on the traveler side dashboard and door panels, contrast sewing, a bespoke exhibit for the infotainment monitor and aluminum inserts.
Excluding that, the ZL1 displays the same information seen in the revamped, 2016 Camaro. The infotainment monitor is bigger and sits elevated in the middle stack, most keys are now positioned just beneath the touch screen, whereas the cooling and heating controls incorporate into the rings, adjoining the air ducts. 2017 ZL1 feels more upscale and roomier when compared to the outgoing model.
2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Engine
The 2017 Camaro ZL1 comes equipped with a V8, supercharged engine with the displacement of 6.2 liters that shares most parts with the engine of the Chevrolet Corvette. However, the intake and exhaust arrangement have been adjusted to make the new vehicle produce the utmost power of 640 ponies and the utmost torque of 640 lbs per foot. This is 60 ponies and 84 lbs per foot more than the powertrain figures offered by the outgoing model.
The engine accelerates the new vehicle to a speed of 60 mph from the start in 3.5 seconds, which is 0.5 seconds quicker than the outgoing model. The maximum speed is 186 mph.
The engine will be mated to a ten-velocity automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. For drivers who would rather grow their personal gears, the new ZL1 will be offered with a standard six-velocity manual transmission.
Base cost and the date of release
The release date is expected to be the fourth quarter of 2016, with the starting 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 price of $ 59,000.
