Everybody in the auto industry knows that the Mazda Koeru concept was unveiled at the 2015 Motor Show in Frankfurt. Mazda described it as its most recent project into the budding crossover sports utility market and confirmed that there will be a production model of it before the motor show was over. It makes that the new version for the model year 2017 model will hit the market before expected.
According to Mazda, the Koeru will seed a car, which will fill the gap between the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda3, but most fanatics of Mazda vehicles are eagerly waiting for the arrival of the new CX-4. However, the 2017 Mazda CX-4 is expected to be somewhat smaller than the Mazda CX-5. The good news is that the 2017 model CX-4 looks prepared to hit the assembly line, a worldwide debut should happen in some months, probably at Beijing Car Show, which is this mounts, 25 April.
2017 Mazda CX-4 Design, Exterior
External design wise, the 2017 CX-4 bears a close similarity to the Koeru concept. It comes equipped with the same KODO-styled front fascia with the huge, shield-shaped front grille and carved engine hood. It also features the fancy chrome framework of the Koeru concept that extends into the headlights, a design trait not available on other Mazda models. On the other hand, the apron is rather different from Koeru.
Around rear also, the 2017 model CX-4 receives the majority of features of the Koeru concept. However, Mazda has made some minor changes to make them appear with the production-friendly design. It comes equipped with larger taillights, with the thicker chrome strip between them. The exhaust pipes are no longer incorporated into the bumper and they pop out nearer to the ground. Similarly, it comes equipped with a taller windscreen, the lower tailgate features a smoother design, and the bumper features a more practical appearance.
Furthermore, the 2017 CX-4 comes with the same sporty profile as that of the Koeru concept. As a result, the door handles are mundane, the roof sits higher, but the wheels are not as stylish as those of the concept are. However, the blacked-out B-pillar and C-pillar and the coupe-like design are still there.
The 2017 model CV-4 comes with the external dimension of184″ (L) x 76″ (W) x 60″ (H) with the wheelbase length of 108 inches.
2017 Mazda CX-4 Interior
Unfortunately, the cabin is not as fancy as that of the Koeru concept. However, it is more in line with the Mazda CX-5. The center stack design is the same, with an infotainment monitor positioned above the rectangular air conditioning vents and all the buttons and knobs are placed below the vents.
The steering wheel and the center console seem to be the same as those of the CX-5. The new CX-4 would come equipped with plenty of premium interior features, including leather, aluminum inserts, contrast sewing, and a good fit-and-finish in general.
Naturally, the coupe-like look will make it roomier than the Mazda CX-5. However, the production version will not be as cramped in the back as the Koeru concept because of its taller glass quarters.
Mazda has not yet revealed the engine options. However, according to reliable sources from Mazda, it is expected that the new vehicle would be equipped with the same engine, used in the Mazda CX-5. If it were true, the CX-4 would come equipped with a SkyActiv engine with the displacement of 2.0 liters. This is the base engine and it will produce the greatest power of 155 ponies and the greatest torque of 150 pounds per foot.
It is also rumored that it would come equipped with another powerful SkyActiv engine with the displacement of 2.5 liters. This 2017 Mazda CX-4 engine would produce the power of 184 ponies and the greatest torque of 185 pounds per foot. However, this engine will be offered to higher end models only.
Certain markets other than the United States, the new CX-4 would also be equipped with a diesel engine, it will be SKYACTIV-D turbodiesel 2.2 liters. This would crank out the greatest power of 147 ponies and the greatest torque of 280 pounds per foot.
The 2017 CX-4 would come equipped with both six-velocity manual transmission and six-velocity automatic transmission.
Base cost and the release date
The 2017 Mazda CX-4 release date is expected to be the last quarter of 2016. Although most of its features are derived from the Mazda CX-5, Mazda has carried out some updates. These improvements make it cost more. However, it is expected that the new CX-4 would be sold at a starting price of $21,795 in America.
